President's Message

Welcome to the Heart of America Association of Blood Bank's website!  Our organization was formed in the early 1970's by a group of individuals whose purpose was to merge the Kansas and Missouri Associations of Blood Banks together for educational purposes.  Over the past forty years the HAABB has provided quality educational meetings for physicians, technologists, and students.

This year's annual meeting, held on May 13th and 14th in Kansas City, Missouri, was a great success.  The meeting featured presentations on current blood bank related topics as well as several interesting case studies.  Topics included blood management, molecular techniques in the blood bank, blood groups and anthropology, passenger lymphocyte syndrome and investigation of hemolytic anemia in a post transplant patient.

In addition, twenty-four vendors had exhibits and interacted with attendees.  Participants were invited to a vendor reception featuring hors d'oeuvres and raffle prizes donated by the vendors.

Please check the website for updates on the 2010 fall meeting to be held in September in St Louis and for information concerning the 2011 annual spring meeting held in May in Kansas City.

I look forward to serving as your president and welcome any comments or suggestions you may have to improve our organization, the website, or the annual fall and spring meetings.
